He declares "my wife was dearer to my soul than its soul-life" and watching her die of a long illness must have brought on the conclusion of his life as it was unbearable to live without her. Almost as if losing her was comparable to losing the mother he never knew. "None so devotional as that of "Mother,"" reveals his detachment from having a Mother to call his own. He puts it in quotation marks as if he has no real point of reference.

Poe wrote over 50 poems and was a prolific scientific writer challenging most regaled scientific personalities of his time. He was obviously intelligent but with his lack of control at remaining at university, and with this rippling through all other areas of employment; he obviously was only happy when doing inspiring activities he was passionate about: stories, poems and science.
